MEVI Days working group 2026: Communicative AI: roots and repercussions

Our working group invited submissions examining the entanglement between communication and communicative AI. The group had a particular interest in critical and embodied approaches to communication phenomena related to AI; the long-term efforts, material resources, and discursive work on which the current “artificial intelligence hype” is based. Group organized in collaboration with Synthetica.

Seminar March 10, 2025:
Will AI Replace _______ ? [Insert Dream/Fear Here]

Much of the development related to artificial intelligence has revolved around the concept of replacement. This concept is evident from self-driving cars to chatbot customer service to algorithmic recommendations of media and entertainment services. This open seminar aims to address these and other topical issues related to the adoption of AI solutions into working life and beyond. The seminar was hosted by Crazy Town Jyväskylä, and organized in collaboration between two ongoing research projects funded by the Research Council of Finland: SYNTHETICA and GET:ORG.

Seminar Feb 11, 2025:
Organizing, communication and temporalities

We are delighted to host Joëlle Basque from Université TÉLUQ for a one-day seminar in Helsinki in connection with the forthcoming VAKKI conference. The program consists of six presentations that explore communication, temporalities, and communicative materialization of time and futures in organizing and collective action.
